A Gala of Cultural Diversity in the Golden Season of Autumn
On October 28th, the Night Gala of Cultural Diversity was held at the Big Theatre. It was aceremonious exhibition of international music and dance organized by the schools’ Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and enjoyed by over 500 performers and spectators including children, parents, grandparents, Chinese and international friends, and guests from the government and the media.
The gala began with an Indian lighting ceremony given by Ms Kasturi Pattanaik who is a master of Indian dances. Her performance set an exotic keynote, and the other ten performances continued to capture the audience’s hearts and raised a chorus of applause.
The classic Indian dance Odissi offered a glimpse of ancient Indian deities. The performer was magnificently attired with her costume adorned with sliver and gold threads and her head wreathed with flowers that resembled sunlight rays. The movements of her hands, the curves of her head, chest and limbs, and her facial expressions seemed to be narrating the joy, sadness and anger of the characters in Indian myths.
The melodious trumpet scherzo, led by WIS Principal Anders and joined by international teachers Linsey, Diego and Genesis, was a treat.
A qipao show was staged by 22 WBS mothers. Midst the tender music which is characteristic of south-east China, they walked slowly to the front of the stage with a round silk fan in one hand and a silk handkerchief in the other, bringing to life the beauty and grace of the traditional Chinese dresses.
The violin music of WBS teacher Ms Li Lin was just lovely, and the guqin performance of the schools’ Zhiyuan Guqin Club was revealing of the students’ talent in the art.
The cultural gala closed after principals of both schools presented PTA members with certificates and wished closer and more fruitful future collaboration between the schools and parents.
For every brilliant moment of the performances we are indebted to the skills and efforts of all performers and support staff. The classic Indian dance show was made possible by WIS Namarata, and the theatre was kept clean and in good order thanks to WBS grade four PTA volunteers.
Let’s look forward to the second cultural gala at Wahaha Schools!
